Job Description
You’ll sit at the heart of our work to transform our planning and regulation of the water industry to improve the water environment.

We’re looking for an innovative person to support the Environment Agency’s drive to reduce pollution from the water industry through annual Pollution Incident Reduction Plans (PIRPs) and longer-term planning frameworks. Your coordinated management of this work will achieve significant environmental benefits.
Responsibilities:
* Develop legislation and statutory guidance with Defra, liaising with internal teams on connected work areas.
* Engage with water companies and stakeholders to develop and produce statutory guidance.
* Build and maintain relationships, especially with national and operational colleagues in related areas.
* Support the consultation process for new statutory guidance.
* Provide governance updates, internal guidance, and training.
You will work with senior managers, legal services, operations, communications, finance, and business planning. You should be able to work independently while maintaining effective communication with your team and stakeholders.

The Team
You’ll be part of the Water Quality Assets Team within Operation Catchment Services, focused on working with Defra, water companies, and stakeholders on new guidance and public consultations. Our team is dispersed and collaborates with various technical and project teams across the country. The role is flexible in location with some travel and overnight stays expected.
Experience/Skills Required
* Knowledge and experience in water quality, environmental legislation, wastewater discharge regulation, and Pollution Incident Reduction Plans.
* Experience in partnership building and relationship management, acting as a key interface with customers.
* Ability to articulate business needs effectively, with an understanding of business concepts in the water sector.
* Self-motivated, collaborative, and outcome-oriented.
* Problem-solving skills and ability to raise emerging issues.
* Experience working with Defra or other government departments is advantageous.
