Job Overview
We are expanding our Respiratory Consultant team at our Derby site and we want you to help us shape and deliver it. You will join a team of dedicated Consultants working closely together providing respiratory care to patients in Staffordshire, Derbyshire and surrounding areas.
We would particularly welcome applicants with an interest in cancer, sleep and interstitial lung disease although we would consider accommodating other sub‑speciality interests. The applicant will be expected to contribute to the respiratory virtual ward as part of a team of consultants within the department.
Main duties of the job
* Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of a Respiratory Service.
* Responsibility for day‑to‑day management and provision of a high quality, consultant‑led Respiratory Medicine service.
* Teaching and training of junior medical staff, and medical students.
* Active participation in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and ensuring participation in continuing medical education (CME).
This is an excellent opportunity to join the Respiratory Medicine Department at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton. The department is one of the larger and fastest growing clinical respiratory departments in the country and as such you will be joining a dynamic and close‑knit team of 24 Respiratory Consultants. The department prides itself on being innovative and progressive and at the cutting edge of respiratory service delivery across numerous sub‑specialities.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBBS/MBChB & possession of MRCP
* Evidence of entry on GMC Specialist Register in Respiratory Medicine and General (Internal) Medicine or CCT or within 6 months of attaining CCT at the time of interview
* Evidence that the GMC is processing the Specialist Registration application (MUST be provided prior to interview)
* Level 1 accreditation in thoracic ultrasound
Clinical Experience
* 5 years of supervised training in an appropriate StR equivalent training programme, together with a high standard of clinical skills and expertise in general medicine
* Evidence of ability to work effectively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team and share clinical responsibilities
* Evidence of having developed a subspecialty interest
Management & Teaching
* Experience of audit management
* Experience of and commitment to teaching undergraduates and postgraduates
* Experience of research in clinical practice
* Evidence of training in clinical teaching methods
* Publications in peer‑reviewed journals
* Experience of enrolling and consenting patients into trials; ICH‑GCP qualification
