Health Care Support Worker - Neurorehabilitation

The Floyd Unit is an 18‑bedded ward for patients who have been admitted following a neurological episode. Staff work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team, including a ward consultant, therapy teams and specialist nurses, to ensure patients achieve their full rehabilitation potential, with the aim of safe discharge home independently or with support or into residential/nursing care.
Responsibilities
* Record patient information and provide clinical support to ensure efficient and effective running of the unit, including providing 1:1 supervision where necessary.
* Assist with all activities of daily living, clinical observations, taking blood sugars, completing documentation and other required tasks.
* Provide excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.
* Deliver personal care to neuro‑rehabilitation patients.
* Ensure quality and safety checks are completed.
* Ensure bed spaces are ready for use promptly.
* Assist in the admission and discharge of patients.
* Establish and maintain communication with patients, relatives, carers and the multidisciplinary team to provide holistic patient care.
* Develop own skills and knowledge and provide information to others to help their development.
* Monitor and maintain health, safety and security in own work area.
* Assist in maintaining and developing services and ensuring own actions help to maintain quality.
* Assist in assessing people's health and wellbeing and related needs.
* Assist in planning, delivering and evaluating programmes to meet people's health and wellbeing needs.
* Assist in the use of technology for measurement, monitoring and treatment.
* Work flexibly, including unsociable hours, to meet the demands of the service.
* Provide 1:1 care of restless / agitated patients.
Qualifications
* Care Certificate, either upon appointment or within 12 weeks of commencement.
* Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy (GCSE English and Maths Grade D–G).
* NVQ Level 2 in Healthcare or a Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship.
Knowledge, Training & Experience
* Experience of working with members of the public or a desire to work in the Health Service.
* Understanding of routine work procedures gained through a short induction period and on‑the‑job training.
* Experience of working within a health or social care environment.
* Experience of working within a team.
Skills & Abilities
* Basic IT skills.
* Good organisational skills.
* Commitment to undertaking continuous professional development (CPD).
