HOURS: - Primarily daytime working although some evenings required
* Variable shift pattern including weekends and Bank Holidays
* 30 + hours a week

INTRODUCTION
We are seeking an efficient and friendly individual to lead our café team at Wheal Martyn, working closely with the Museum Manager. Our busy café serves the local community, visitors to the museum and also caters for functions and events on occasions. We have a small but hard working dedicated team who are adaptable and flexible, working to the varying demands of the business and we expect the same from a Team Leader. We strive to maintain a 'family' ethos where the team work together supportively and we aspire to deliver excellent customer service and a high quality food offering, homemade where possible.

OVERALL PURPOSE
Supervising and leading the day-to-day operation of the café ensuring effective staff rotas are in place and high standards of customer service and food are delivered to visitors to Wheal Martyn. In addition, support the Museum Manager to develop the café offer, in keeping with Wheal Martyn themes of sustainability, local produce, healthy and seasonal menu choices, and homemade where possible.
The post involves working hands on front of house in the café and kitchen, delivering exceptional customer service and instilling a customer focussed attitude in the team. You will also responsible for maintaining a vibrant atmosphere and well-presented facilities, food and beverage offer. Be proactive at maximising sales and cross promotion at every opportunity.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Supervise a team of customer-focused staff and front of house volunteers to maximise income and provide a high quality service to visitors, ensuring that facilities are kept to a high standard.
· Manage an efficient weekly rota for the café and ensuring costs are maintained at an acceptable level.
· Work hands on in the café – both front of house and in the kitchen
· When in the kitchen produce good quality café food and buffets for functions in line with high standards of food hygiene
· Assist the Museum Manager in developing and training an efficient, customer and sales focused team.
· Assist with customer enquiries and maintain excellent customer relations, assisting to instil customer care values in all employees.
· Organise the set up and service of functions and events to the required standards
· Assist the Museum Manager in developing the cafe working closely with colleagues to develop and create seasonal menus to attract new customers and to develop appropriate catering packages for a range of functions to suit individual needs.
· Ensure regular stocktakes are carried out in café, taking responsibility for the stock control and overseeing the ordering of all café beverages, confectionary and ice cream, whilst maintaining prescribed cost of sales.
· Achieve agreed budgetary targets.
· Ensure that hygiene, cleanliness of facilities/equipment are maintained at all times and procedures adhered to, making employees aware of their responsibilities.
· Keep all equipment in your care to required standards of maintenance and health and safety, with proper records kept and regularly updated. Ensure all equipment and facilities are kept to a high standard of repair and cleanliness at all times.
· Act as a key holder and Duty Manager.
· Operate the computerized till system, accurately handling cash and credit/debit card payments in accordance with prescribed procedures and completing accurate daily and weekly paperwork.
· Ensure that the premises are open when required, well maintained, safe, inviting and comply with relevant legislation.
· Undertake training and development as required and be available to train colleagues.
· Be accountable to Wheal Martyn Trust for Health and Safety of self, volunteers, customers, employees and contractors.
· Perform such other duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Trust.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND CAPABILITIES:
Qualifications:
Qualification to a minimum of Level II Food Hygiene or similar.
Essential Experience:
Experience in supervising staff
Experience working front of house in busy cafes
Food preparation and cooking
Awareness of allergens
Previous experience of dealing with suppliers, ordering stock and stocktaking
Organised and efficient
Experience of cash handling and till operations
Barista training
Capabilities:
Smart personal appearance and professional image
Enthusiasm and ability to work under own direction
Flexible approach to working within a busy team.
Attention to detail
Demonstrate accuracy when dealing with figures and stock taking
Excellent customer service skills both on the telephone and in person, with good listening skills and professional written skills.
Computer skills such as outlook, excel and word
Desirable
Intermediate Food Hygiene (Level III) qualification or equivalent
Experience in setting up a function and have the initiative to adapt to customers' needs.
Experience working with volunteers
Experience of retail
