Job Overview

The Peer Support Worker role is a vital part of the team at the Leicestershire Recovery College. The college offers wellbeing courses and workshops across Leicester City, Leicestershire, and Rutland, focusing on recovery and non-clinical support. Students can include Mental Health Service Users, their Carers or Family Members, and staff from Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust.

The role supports the student support services at the college, providing peer support during courses, workshops, and short-term sessions with students and their families or carers where appropriate. These sessions may include enrolment, learning plans, or recovery and wellbeing support aligned with student goals.

Applicants must have completed and passed the Peer Support Training offered by IMROC.

Please note this is a part-time role, 20.5 hours per week.

Job Description Summary (Main Duties and Responsibilities)

The role involves supporting students using recovery-focused models and techniques, assisting in developing support needs and action plans, and participating in designing and delivering course content. Key activities include:

1. Utilising recovery-focused models to support students during courses, workshops, and short-term sessions, including support planning.
2. Involvement in designing, planning, and delivering the syllabus and course content, including tutoring and supporting courses.
3. Representing the voice of service users/students.
4. Supporting individuals experiencing mental health issues, their carers, and the community to engage with recovery-focused activities through peer support.
5. Promoting college activities through various channels.
6. Building relationships with local community services and organisations.
7. Sharing knowledge of available services to support and signpost students and their families.
8. Providing signposting to support and advice for students, families, and carers.
