Role Purpose
The Head of HR will play a pivotal role in leading and evolving the People function at MJ Quinn. Working closely with the HR Director, this role will ensure the delivery of strategic HR initiatives while maintaining operational excellence across the employee lifecycle. The postholder will act as a senior advisor, team leader, and change agent, supporting the business through growth, transformation, and cultural development.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic HR Leadership
· Collaborate with the HR Director to shape and execute a forward-thinking HR strategy aligned with MJ Quinn’s business goals.
· Lead workforce planning, organisational development, and change management initiatives across all business units.
· Provide expert guidance to senior leaders on complex HR matters including employee relations, performance management, and engagement strategies.
· Lead the development and implementation of HR policies and frameworks that support business objectives.
· Drive continuous improvement across HR processes, systems, and service delivery.
Operational HR Management
· Oversee the delivery of core HR services such as onboarding, absence management, disciplinary and grievance procedures, and exit processes.
· Ensure full compliance with UK employment legislation and internal HR policies.
· Drive continuous improvement of HR systems, including data analytics and reporting tools to support strategic decision-making.
· Ensure consistency and quality across HR documentation, advice, and case handling.
· Manage escalated HR cases and provide expert guidance to HR Advisors and Managers.
Learning & Development
· Support the Head of L&D to design and implement a company-wide L&D strategy covering compliance training, leadership development, technical upskilling, and career progression.
· Work with the Head of L&D to identify skills gaps and develop targeted learning interventions.
Talent Management & Succession Planning
· Work with the Head of L&D and Head of Recruitment, to develop and maintain talent pipelines and succession plans for critical roles across the organisation.
· Work with the L&D team to promote internal mobility and leadership readiness through structured development programmes.
· Embed a performance-driven culture using appraisal frameworks and personalised development plans.
Culture, Engagement & Inclusion
· Develop and lead initiatives that foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture.
· Manage employee engagement programmes including surveys, action planning, and recognition schemes.
· Support the HR Director in delivering Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) strategies and embedding inclusive practices.
· Collaborate with Recruitment, L&D, and Communications to ensure joined-up people strategies.
Team Leadership & Development
· Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing HR team.
· Foster a collaborative, service-oriented team culture that supports business needs.
· Ensure continuous professional development and capability building within the HR function.
· Line manage HR Managers and Advisors, providing coaching, development, and performance oversight
Person Specification
Essential
– CIPD Level 7 or equivalent experience.
– Proven experience in a senior HR role preferably within a multi-site organisation.
– Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
– Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
– Experience in telecoms, engineering, or infrastructure sectors.
– Exposure to acquisition and integration processes.
– Familiarity with digital HR platforms (e.g., Sage People, Thrive).
