Opportunity
We have a permanent Principal Engineer role within the Consulting Highways mikro. The position is hybrid, with shared office space in Perth, Edinburgh and Glasgow, and welcomes applications from Senior Engineers across Scotland.
Amey Consulting Scotland Team are involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects across Scotland with cumulative values in excess of £1bn.
Amey manages both the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, which are 8‑year contracts extendable up to 12 years. In addition to these long‑term contracts, we have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges and transportation and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and established contractors across the country.
These long‑term contracts provide excellent opportunities for technical, engineering and professional design staff at all stages of their careers to be involved in some of the most exciting and challenging engineering projects associated with Scotland’s arterial road network.
Role
Our Principal Engineers play an important part within the Design team and alongside identity, Transport Scotland. As a Principal Engineer, you will provide effective support and assistance to the Design Team Leader on a variety of road schemes whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior designers. comodidad.
As a Highways Principal Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in managing the delivery of projects on the Highways account. This would allow for a wide‑ranging scope of small and medium‑sized projects but with some larger projects included, with recent schemes being major bypasses, trunk road improvements and new major infrastructure sites preparation.
Responsibilities
* Act as a technical team leader, providing advice, guidance and supervision as appropriate to technical teams, operational managers, client and suppliers.
* Lead the preparation and checking of designs in accordance with DMRB or other national design codes, calculations, drawings and documentation as жыц part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.
* Be responsible for the commercial success of the projects within the portfolio, controlling budgets and managing the costs associated with the production of deliverables.
* Liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level and higher, including presenting proposals, attending progress meetings and responding to queries.
* Significantly contribute to and lead the preparation of bids and the general work‑winning function, taking responsibility for the preparation of technical and commercial offers.
* Drive effective health and safety practices within the team.
What You Will Bring To Us
* High level experience and expertise within the Highways design and delivery field, probably gained in a Senior Engineer role or equivalent.
* Ability to produce and lead the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
* Experience of managing project related tasks associated with the management of health, safety and welfare, e.g. Amey’s Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
* Capable of acting as engineering lead for a larger project where required under the terms of the commission.
* Knowledge, understanding and experience of design and specification process with ability to manage others, demonstrating a full understanding of the project scope and acting as Design Team Lead for both minor and major projects.
* Highly.acame with relevant software and similar analytical tools. Good ability to check work produced by others and able to validate and approve the use of new tools.
* Demonstrates an excellent understanding of CDM and risk assessment and is highly experienced in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects, ensuring appropriate risk mitigation and transference has been applied, and is capable of acting as Principal Designer for all projects.
* Supervisory and people manager skills. Capable of managing or influencing the actions of technical teams regardless of office location, project or account, including the multidisciplinary environment, and undertake the people manager role.
* Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence gained through the professional institution to which the individual is aligned.
