The Opportunity

About the Role
As our Technical Manager, you’ll be the technical lead for CMD’s future technologies, supporting new product development and providing expert guidance across all levels—from internal teams to clients and consultants. You’ll also represent CMD on key technical trade bodies, ensuring our voice is heard and our standards are met.
Key Responsibilities
* Resolve technical quality issues and support the quality department.
* Provide technical specifications beyond standard scopes to the sales team.
* Collaborate with Far East technical and manufacturing teams to develop products from concept to manufacture.
* Represent CMD at industry events and trade bodies (e.g. BEAMA & FIRA).
* Advise on product compliance with BS/EN/IEC and UL standards.
* Conduct site visits for electrical inspections and testing.
* Liaise with compliance test houses for product certification.
* Guide CMD on legislation, EU directives, UK building regulations, and energy-saving initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
* HNC in Electrical Engineering or similar.
* Proven experience in a similar technical role.
* Strong knowledge of BS/EN standards (e.g. BS 1363-2:2023, BS 7671:2018+A2:2022).
* Skilled in electrical testing, fault finding, and calculations (Amtech).
* Familiarity with European directives (LVD, EMC, RoHS, WEEE, REACH, RED).
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and CAD.
Desirable:
* Qualifications in portable appliance testing and building regulations.
* Experience with RF and Wi-Fi systems and software.
