Description This is a second-line role in the Compliance and Regulatory Affairs team which is part of the wider Risk function. We are at the forefront of complex regulatory change, providing specialist regulatory support, driving good outcomes and value for customers, stakeholders and the business. With the integration of Virgin Money it’s an exciting time to be joining Nationwide. As a Compliance Advice Manager, you’ll play a key part in our compliance team, providing expert advice and oversight across business areas on regulatory matters and ensuring we meet regulatory requirements. You’ll need to work across the lines of defence, collaborating with a range of stakeholders to oversee appropriate compliance arrangements that we need as an enlarged group, and ensure these are embedded, whilst also supporting business areas with the implementation of any related regulatory change in their processes and decision-making. You’ll be using your specific expertise in the Senior Manager and Certification Regime (SM&CR) to support the first-line business with their decisions, providing pragmatic advice and helping develop practical solutions. You’ll also use your broader regulatory knowledge and experience to support the delivery of good customer outcomes in line with Consumer Duty, including providing advice and oversight for areas such as Complaints and Remediation. You’ll be familiar with wider key regulatory processes and ideally have project management skills that you can use in a compliance context and be comfortable working in a small team that often adopts a matrix working approach. We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best. The working hours (per week) for this role can be between 28 and 35 hours. For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon or London office. Responsibilities What you’ll be doing You will provide regulatory expertise and advice to guide, support, validate and challenge business areas in conduct and compliance matters. You’ll collaborate with senior leaders, operational teams, and risk functions to influence strategic decisions and help maintain a strong culture of compliance across Nationwide. You will need to interpret complex regulation, giving attention to both the detail and the wider regulatory agenda, identifying and weighing up possible alternatives and providing advice and opinion based on conduct and compliance risk. You’ll provide regulatory advice related to SM&CR to establish clear governance structures and accountabilities and support senior managers in demonstrating reasonable steps through training and practical advice. Additionally, you’ll also be supporting with broader customer aspects such as Consumer Duty and Complaints, representing the Risk function in business risk meetings and at senior management team meetings to provide oversight of proposals & reporting and monitoring risk indicators to ensure conduct and compliance risks are appropriately identified, understood and addressed. Finally, you will use your communications skills to ensure management are briefed on key matters, and you will know when to escalate issues as they arise. About you You will have broad regulatory risk experience relating to compliance, conduct and operational risk management equipping you to advise the wider business as part of the Nationwide three lines of defence risk management framework. Alongside the ability to independently read and interpret regulation; you will need to be able to deliver excellent consultancy skills; to influence stakeholders, articulate risks and issues and apply a risk lens to business strategy. For this role you’ll have: Recent experience working across the 3 lines of defence ideally in a matrix management environment Strong compliance knowledge and advisory experience of the FCA Handbook, PRA Rules and Supervisory Statements with expertise in SM&CR and other associated Systems and Controls and Governance expectations applicable to dual-regulated and solo-regulated firms, in a group setting Understanding of regulatory processes including those related to variation of permissions Good knowledge of Consumer Duty regulations with related oversight and regulatory risk management experience Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills with experience in engaging and challenging business areas, supporting the management of relationships with colleagues Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to confidently interpret and explain complex regulations and make pragmatic judgements that support practical implementation Some Project Management experience DISP knowledge Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together.
