The O pportunity
This is a full time permanent role for an enthusiastic Junior Software Developer based in Beeston, Nottingham. The ideal candidate will be passionate about software development and eager to learn and grow their career.
You will be working as part of a DevOps team made up of around 15 hardworking and enthusiastic people who share a passion for delivering real value to, and driving change in, the UK rail industry.
We are the UK’s largest and most established provider of Customer Information Systems that drive the CIS displays and automated public address announcements at around 2, UK railway stations. Worldline provide these systems to Train Operating Companies and Network Rail.
We offer a relaxed hybrid working model: During school term - 3 days office based, and 2 days home based. Outside of school term (during major school holidays) this is relaxed further (up to 5 days working from home).
The role may also require occasional travel to other Worldline or customer sites.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
1. Write clean, efficient and maintainable code in accordance with best practices
2. Unit test and debug code
3. Participate in code reviews
4. Participate in regular team meetings and discussions
5. Maintenance of software documentation and user manuals
6. Investigate and resolve software bugs
Who Are We Looking For
7. One year’s experience in software development (including internships)
8. A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field would be preferable but is not essential
9. Proficient in at least one programming language, such as PHP, JavaScript/HTML/CSS, Java, or .NET
10. Understanding of software development methodologies such as Agile and Scrum
11. Strong problem-solving skills
12. Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies
13. Understanding of tools such as Jira, Bitbucket, GitLab repositories and CI/CD pipelines, SonarQube and Containers, would be beneficial
14. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
