SENDirect
Humanities teacher
Posted: 13 August
Offer description

We are looking for a passionate and resilient SEMH Humanities Teacher to join a specialist school in Bishop's Stortford, supporting secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs. This is a full-time, permanent position starting August 2025.

You will teach Humanities across Key Stages 3 and 4, adapting the curriculum to meet a range of learning profiles, including pupils with Autism, ADHD, and attachment-related difficulties. Classes are small, behaviour is supported by strong policies and a therapeutic approach, and you will be part of a committed, well-established team.

This role is ideal for someone with creativity, emotional intelligence, and a calm, structured approach to classroom management. Whether you're an experienced SEMH specialist or a mainstream teacher ready to make a meaningful change, support and CPD are available from day one.

The school provides clear behaviour frameworks, a strong sense of community, and a shared belief that every young person can succeed with the right support. Your lessons will go beyond academic content - helping students develop confidence, identity, and the skills to thrive.

You'll be well-compensated with a salary that reflects your experience and contribution, and you'll work in a team where collaboration is part of daily life.

* Create engaging, trauma-informed learning environments
* Build positive, consistent relationships with pupils
* Monitor and assess progress against individual learning plans
* Support the delivery of therapeutic and pastoral interventions
* Contribute to behaviour planning and restorative practice
* Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and families

Qualifications and Experience

* QTS or equivalent teaching qualification
* Experience teaching History, Geography, or other Humanities subjects
* Experience with or a passion for working in SEMH settings
* Strong behaviour management and trauma-informed practice
* Ability to differentiate content for varied learning needs
* Team player with a reflective, flexible approach
* Resilience, empathy, and commitment to inclusive education
