Permanent full‑time 40 hours per week (working 1 in 3 weekends on call).
Background
Derwentside Immigration Removal Centre is a fully contained residential facility dedicated to housing adult women. Since September 2023 the centre has been managed by Serco on behalf of Home Office Immigration Enforcement. The role will support the Contract Operations Director and, in their absence, deputise and lead the centre.
Main Accountabilities
* Influence senior management team; maintain and contribute to the strategic and business planning process.
* Develop, agree and manage departmental area annual budgets and monthly accounts.
* Ensure Directors Rules, Post Orders and the Local Security Strategy are reviewed annually.
* Encourage and develop a training and development culture; ensure staff competence and development.
* Prepare and submit accurate reports as required by the Director.
* Represent the contract at internal and external meetings; maintain professional relations.
* Ensure every member of staff has an accurate Success Profile and a MyCatchUp document set annually.
* Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations and conduct risk assessments.
* Champion a culture of respect, inclusion and fair recruitment practices.
What You’ll Need To Do The Role
* Degree level education or equivalent (CMI qualification advantageous).
* Assistant Director level or equivalent experience in a custodial/immigration environment.
* Trained in the Management of Serious Incidents.
* Experience managing large multidisciplinary teams at a senior level.
* Experience working within an ethnically diverse organisation.
* Knowledge of contract structures and strategic business planning.
* Creative and systematic problem‑solving ability.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills with negotiation capabilities.
* Knowledge of modern business practices, legislative provisions and standards for a commercial environment.
