The SSUK Manager Energy Optimisation will lead, manage and co-ordinate the energy department, to provide technical advice and support concerning the efficient use of energy and identify cost-effective opportunities for reducing energy consumption across the Speciality Steels business units. Involved in determining the Speciality Steels policy and strategy for matters in energy and climate change in order to ensure compliance with current and future legislation, reporting requirements and world best practices.

The Role
Principle Accountabilities
Lead, manage and coordinate the work of the Energy Efficiency Team in Environment and Energy; define resource and timescales, monitor and review to maximise the effectiveness of the available resource.
Manage develop and maintain metering and monitoring systems to enable suitable levels of energy data to be collected to satisfy all verification, audit and reporting requirements.
Plan and develop internal audit procedures and schedules to ensure they are to the required standards. Complete regular audits in line with these procedures and schedules.
Manage the requirements of ESOS and SECR and ensure compliance for the Business units of Speciality Steels.
Provide technical guidance to, and review technical output of, team members ensuring that work is carried out to the required standards.
Evaluate, coach and develop team members and recommend appropriate further training and development to maximise the competencies and contribution of individuals.
Develop energy expertise across the business, to optimise the effectiveness of staff resource, by contributing to training courses and both general and specialist technical workshops e.g. on lighting, pumping etc. Coach works staff in energy matters as required.
Support the Speciality businesses units in an advisory/consultancy capacity in the fields of process energy efficiency and CO2 reduction. (CN30)
Contribute to a rolling programme of sharing and learning meetings/workshops to maximise the dissemination of best practice energy and CO2 reduction across the Speciality business and across the wider Liberty Steel UK Group.
Liaise with procurement and Energy suppliers to secure suitable Energy Supply contracts.
Liaise with the regulatory authorities in order to interpret legislative requirements for the business.
Develop effective policy and strategy and ensure adequate resource and competence is in place to maintain and develop United Kingdom Emission Trading Scheme (UKETS) procedures and recording systems.
Improve company performance aligned with the business sustainability objectives.
Vision and Context
Energy efficiency & CO2 emissions have major financial, commercial and compliance implications for Speciality Steels. Governance of energy is a direct responsibility of the Business Management Team.
The jobholder provides advice and support to the management teams of business units to enable them to reduce energy consumption. The job requires a range of contacts across the company and outside organisations, trade associations and professional bodies, particularly those involved in energy use & climate change matters.
Required
Knowledge and Experience
The jobholder will typically have a qualification to a minimum 2:1 degree level in a Electrical Engineering or a relevant scientific or engineering discipline, with over five years experience in the steel industry in energy and process emission related activities.
An understanding of associated practical operational and engineering constraints is essential. A relevant professional qualification is preferable e.g. Chartered Engineer and member of an appropriate engineering/technical institution. He/she should have a sound understanding of the steel industry, its production routes, products and supply chains.
He/she should have experience in persuading and influencing at all levels on technical matters as well as excellent communication, team and project management skills and experience in building effective networking and business relationships.
This is a Monday to Friday role 8am-4pm
