Why Drama graduates thrive in this role
Children in this environment often communicate in ways that are:
1. Visual
2. Sensory
3. Non-verbal or semi-verbal
Your understanding of expression, body language, role-play and improvisation will help you:
4. Build trust and rapport
5. Encourage communication through gesture, facial expression and visual prompts
6. Support children to explore emotions safely and creatively
Many pupils use tools such as visual timetables, Makaton, symbols, AAC, movement or sensory resources—you’ll learn to interpret communication beyond words.
What you’ll be doing
7. Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups
8. Encouraging communication using drama-inspired techniques—movement, gesture, role-play, mirroring
9. Promoting independence and emotional regulation through creative activities
10. Assisting with personal care or feeding where required (full training provided)
11. Collaborating with teachers and therapists to follow personalised support plans
12. Creating a safe, calm, engaging learning environment
For some pupils, your presence might be the moment they feel understood.
Who we want to hear from
You do not need school experience—what matters are your people skills, empathy and creativity.
