We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Fitter to join our team at our pallet repair yard. The successful candidate will be responsible for the upkeep, repair, and maintenance of all machinery, ensuring our operations run smoothly and efficiently. This includes preventative maintenance, diagnosing faults, and responding promptly to emergency breakdowns to minimise downtime. Key Responsibilities: • Machinery Maintenance: Carry out regular preventative maintenance on pallet dismantlers, nail removers, stackers, compressors, conveyor systems, hydraulic equipment, and hand tools. • Fault Diagnosis & Repair: Quickly identify and repair mechanical and electrical faults to maintain uninterrupted production. • Emergency Response: Respond immediately to breakdowns to restore operations efficiently. • Inspection & Quality Control: Conduct regular inspections of all machinery to detect potential issues before they become problems. Ensure all maintenance work meets safety and quality standards. • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate logs of maintenance, repairs, and spare parts usage. • Inventory Management: Manage spare parts inventory and order replacements as needed. • Advisory Role: Advise management on equipment replacement or upgrades to support business growth. • Staff Training: Train existing staff on basic machine care and safe operating procedures. • Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all maintenance work follows health and safety regulations. Skills, Experience & Qualifications: • Proven experience as a Maintenance Fitter or mechanical technician, ideally in manufacturing, recycling, or logistics. • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic electrical fault finding. • Ability to read technical diagrams and maintenance manuals. • Experience in preventative maintenance and responding to machinery breakdowns. • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure. • Understanding of health and safety regulations related to machinery maintenance. • Relevant vocational qualifications preferred (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Engineering Maintenance, City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering), though significant hands-on experience will also be considered.
