Shoosmiths EIGHT is the brand name for connected services at Shoosmiths. This initiative aims to broaden the firm’s offerings by providing solutions that extend beyond traditional legal advice.
Positioned at the margins of our core services, Shoosmiths seeks to address wider client needs, offering more comprehensive business solutions and elevating the firm from legal advisor to holistic business partner.
All EIGHT products are delivered within our three Divisions, with the EIGHT team collaborating closely with product leads to identify opportunities, develop client-facing capabilities, and drive origination strategies.

The role
Shoosmiths EIGHT has significant potential to enhance client engagement, differentiate in markets, generate revenue, and foster a collaborative culture. It is a strategic priority for Shoosmiths.
Following a successful platform launch and recent strategic leadership changes, EIGHT aims to grow further and become a flagship offering aligned with the firm’s 2030 vision.
We are seeking an entrepreneurial, versatile individual to help realize this ambition. Prior knowledge of connected services is not required.
Main responsibilities
The role is diverse and adaptable, typical of a small, agile business. The primary focus (75%) will be on developing and maintaining EIGHT products, with the remaining 25% supporting the Director in commercial activities, offering a broad skill development opportunity.
This includes shaping and implementing strategy, increasing business visibility, and supporting business development efforts.
Product Responsibilities
* Play a key role in developing new and existing connected services products.
* Lead and manage the product lifecycle from concept through launch.
* Develop infrastructure to support product development, delivery, and management.
* Coordinate with cross-functional teams including business development, marketing, IS, risk & ethics.
* Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources.
* Address operational issues and troubleshoot product delivery.
* Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies.
* Establish KPIs to monitor product success.
* Report regularly to senior management on progress and challenges.
* Stay informed on industry trends and emerging technologies.
Commercial Responsibilities
* Assist the Director with strategic planning.
* Support embedding the new strategy, championing focused product development.
* Attend internal meetings to promote EIGHT and connected services.
* Contribute to new product ideas and business cases.
* Meet potential partners and assess external capabilities.
* Manage stakeholders effectively.
* Support client engagement efforts, including pitches and deal execution.
Skills and qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a versatile skill set, comfortable with product detail, project management, strategic thinking, and client-oriented approaches. Knowledge of law firms is advantageous but not essential. Experience in front office support, risk assessment, stakeholder management, and entrepreneurial mindset are valued. Additional skills like accounting, project management, and technology interest are preferred. Legal experience is not required.
