Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Medical Engineering Department for a Senior Technician specialising in anesthetic and ventilation equipment.
We are looking for a motivated person with extensive experience in maintaining the operating theatre anesthetic machines and ventilators. Our current devices are supplied by Draeger, experience with these devices would be advantageous.
Manufacturer training will be provided for new devices as equipment is replaced.
the successful candidate will also be required to maintain a wide range of complex medical devices
Main duties of the job
As a senior technician you will be expected to take the lead role in providing planned maintenance and breakdown services for the trusts anesthetic machines and ventilators
Carry out acceptance testing, planned preventative maintenance, calibration, service and repair work to anesthetic, electro-medical, renal, laboratory, x-ray and other specialist equipment. Working with minimumsupervision to perform work of a non-routine nature, including complex skilled tasks of a medical engineeringand electronics nature.
Provides supervision, support, advice and training as required to other staff on issues relating to theoperation and maintenance of medical equipment and devices. Deputises for Medical Engineering Managerin their absence (i.e. deals with enquiries, delegates fault reports and planned maintenance activities toMedical Engineering Technicians, etc.).

Main Duties and Responsibilities Operational Responsibilities.
Carries out acceptance testing, planned preventative maintenance, calibration, service and repair work to anaesthetic, electro-medical, renal, laboratory, x-ray and other specialist equipment. Working with minimum supervision to perform work of a non-routine nature, including complex skilled tasks of a medical engineering and electronics nature.
Organises servicing for specialist areas, including liaising with users, suppliers, plans quality audits/commissioning of new equipment.
Analyses & diagnoses faults in complex, multi-faceted medical equipment and completes repairs. Calibrates and maintains medical equipment and devices for use in patient care.
Ensures all duties are carried out in accordance with relevant Policies and Procedures and refers to manufacturers technical documentation (i.e. service manual, operating instructions, etc.) when testing and maintaining specialist equipment and devices.
Provides supervision, support, advice and training as required to other staff on issues relating to the operation and maintenance of medical equipment and devices. Deputises for Medical Engineering Manager in their absence (i.e. deals with enquiries, delegates fault reports and planned maintenance activities to Medical Engineering Technicians, etc.).
Collects, collates and records all maintenance activities and enter actions into the departments equipment service database to ensure accurate maintenance records are kept and a quality service is provided.
Orders supplies of specialist equipment, spare parts & accessories for medical equipment and devices.
Assess the risks and hazards to themselves and others (i.e. staff, patients and visitors) which occur when conducting the maintenance and repair of medical equipment and devices. Aware of his/her responsibilities in respect of the Health and Safety at Work Act and complies with the Trusts Health & Safety Policy.
Works overtime to carry out urgent or essential Planned Maintenance and Breakdown repair work as required. Where necessary, undertakes on-call duties as part of an on-call rota responsible for emergency repairs occurring out of normal working hours.
Attends in-house, NHS and manufacturers training establishments as required for the purpose of training on equipment and participates in the internal training of other members of staff.
