To establish a point of contact for patients in need of prescription provision or medication dispensing. This includes the preparation of prescriptions, dispensing of medication, stock maintenance, and managing communications related to the dispensary.
Hours for this role are 28 - 30 Hours weekly over 5 days. A job share would be considered.
Main duties of the job
Preparation of prescriptions, including responding to all queries and requests from patients, dispensing of medications (conforming to all relevant legislation), stock maintenance of medications, including being familiar with current practice policies and dealing with all communications regarding the dispensary.

Job responsibilities
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:
Preparation of Prescriptions:
a. Respond to all inquiries and requests for assistance from patients and other visitors, directing them to the doctor when necessary.
b. Generate computerised prescriptions, including repeat prescriptions, upon request.
c. Arrange for the collection of prescriptions by patients and chemists.
d. Prepare prescriptions monthly for submission to the Prescription Pricing Authority and respond to any queries they may have.
e. Update patient computer records with medication changes indicated in hospital discharge letters and forms.
f. Acquire a thorough understanding of the computer programs used in dispensary operations.
Dispensing of Medication:
a. Oversee the controlled drug register, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation.
b. Dispense urgent prescriptions and those for temporary residents as needed.
c. Offer dispensing services for all patient prescriptions.
d. Keep the dispensary area clean and well-organised.
Stock Maintenance:
a. Comprehend and comply with current practice prescribing policies, including brand usage and formulary compliance, and reorder as necessary.
b. Maintain adequate stock levels.
c. Document any bonus stock received.
d. Order from the wholesaler, accept, and unpack deliveries.
e. Process the monthly wholesaler invoice for payment.
f. Guarantee an ample supply of stationery, prescriptions, and labels.
Communication Regarding Dispensary:
a. Refer all prescription-related inquiries to the appropriate partner or the duty doctor.
b. Liaise with drug company representatives, local chemists, rest homes, our wholesaler, etc.
c. Assess the efficiency of dispensary systems and report any necessary changes or issues to the practice manager.
General Responsibilities:
Ensure complete familiarity with all computer programs that impact your work.
Maintain a tidy and organised work area.
Monitor effectiveness of the various systems you operate and report any problems or variations required

* To hold or be willing to study for NVQ Level 2 in Dispensing and Pharmacy Assistant programme.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to communicate with people at all levels.
