Working within the National Trust Cumbria Tree & Woodland team, this role will play a key part in the preparation, application and delivery of Countryside Stewardship (Woodlands) schemes across the National Trust’s Cumbria portfolios.
We are looking for someone with knowledge and experience of the detail of Woodland CS schemes to prepare and submit proposals and then co-ordinate their operational delivery, data collection and evidence submissions to meet the agreed deadlines.

Working across Cumbria, within a world heritage site, you will play a key role in delivering landscape wide change. The NT own 3000ha of woodland plus many more trees across its 92 tenant farms. The role will be vital in our strategy in delivering nature restoration at scale.
What you'll be doing
Working closely with property and estate colleagues you will take the lead in the preparation of new schemes. You will be the key point of contact between the National Trust and external partners to prepare and submit applications in the correct formats.
You will be responsible for the delivery of any current schemes, ensuring compliance with the requirements through consistent evidence and data collections and timely submission of applications for the annual payments.
Working with the Trees & Woodland Manager, you will support properties in reviewing and updating woodland management plans to include all the operations that are part of the Woodland CS scheme.
You will be involved with contractor management in order to deliver the required CS operational work – this will require you taking on the role of Forestry Works Manager in some cases
You will work closely with Estate Managers and be the key link for submissions and any legal data requirements or requests. You will take the lead in responding to requests from the FC/RPA in regards to CS scheme requirements.
You will co-ordinate the collection of evidence across all CS schemes, and work closely with Forestry Commission to review progress and ensure ongoing compliance.
Working closely with the National Trust Wildlife Manager, you will support them to put in place appropriate Deer Management Plans and data collection to ensure compliance with CS Deer Management WS1.
Line management of the Build our Boundaries ranger team (4 rangers) and one assistant CS ranger based in the South Lakes.
