General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist – Wren Ward
This is a great opportunity for a full-time (10PA) Consultant for a new 18-bedded Male Working Age Adult Acute Ward, based in Derby. Derbyshire Healthcare is currently undertaking a programme to create purpose-built facilities to improve safety, privacy, and dignity for our adult acute mental health patients by eradicating dormitory accommodation. As part of this programme, a new state-of-the-art adult acute unit is being built on our Kingsway Hospital, Derby site.
This will be an 18-bedded male ward focused on therapeutic interventions, delivering care aligned with national recommendations. The unit is scheduled to open around December 2024, providing an excellent opportunity for you to shape the service and build the team alongside the Ward Manager and senior leaders.
You will collaborate with others to establish and develop this new ward for Derbyshire, working with an innovative programme team and senior leadership.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will provide clinical leadership within the Department and the Working Age Adult Acute Directorate, supporting current and future service developments. You will lead by example, acting as a role model within a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to ensure the highest clinical standards.
The unit will support patients with mental health conditions requiring inpatient treatment in a safe, stable environment conducive to recovery. You will lead the team and support the MDT to create an environment that acknowledges service users' cultures, experiences, protected characteristics, and strengths to promote recovery.
Our adult acute service emphasizes co-production of care with service users as an essential part of their recovery journey. The MDT will involve service users, carers, clinicians, specialist practitioners, and external agencies to ensure care plans are individualized, co-produced, therapeutic, and effective.
