Position overview: We are currently looking to recruit a multi-skilled engineer to complement our canning department at our site in Wakefield. In this role you will be responsible for utilising your electrical/mechanical skills to support the business in meeting its EHS, efficiency, production and cost targets. To focus on continuous improvement, this role will encompass both reactive and preventative maintenance. This position reports into a shift manager. The plant operates a 4 on 4 off shift pattern with a combination of days and nights (12 hour shifts).
Your key responsibilities include:
* Machine operation and maintenance (including repairs), running of process equipment on the manufacturing line.
* Take the necessary corrective actions and report the non-conformities to the Team Leader and the relevant departments.
* Carry out the set up checks that may follow maintenance work. On maintenance days, carry out the repairs, preventive maintenance, etc. as directed by the Engineering Dept.
* Promote quality improvement and preventative actions by involvement in continuous improvement activities.
* Fork truck driving (when licensed or after training); line duties such as scrap bins, warehouse duties (stacking pallets or loading lorries), depal servicing and offloading incoming materials.
* Risk assess all proposed mechanical and electrical work to ensure that the work can be and is done safely.
What are we looking for?
* Apprenticeship in engineering discipline or recognised engineering qualification to HNC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical disciplines.
* Maintenance and fault diagnostic experience within a manufacturing or heavy engineering environment.
* Problem solving and a continuous improvement mindset.
* Fluent English is required.
