Temporary Head of Operations (Maternity Leave Cover)
Location: City of London
Contract Type: Temporary (approx. 12-month maternity cover)
Rate: £27 per hour / up to £55,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Start Date: November 2025
Working Pattern: Hybrid - 1 day per week working from home
About The Role
Our client is seeking an experienced and proactive Head of Operations to provide maternity cover for approximately 12 months, supporting two of London's most vibrant Business Improvement Districts. This is a hands‑on, strategic leadership role overseeing operational delivery, stakeholder engagement, and project management. You will lead a small, dynamic team and work collaboratively with business leaders, local authorities, and community partners to deliver events, initiatives, and improvements that enhance the experience of these thriving districts.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage day-to-day BID operations, ensuring alignment with strategic goals
* Oversee project and event delivery to achieve measurable impact
* Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across public and private sectors
* Manage budgets, levy income, and financial performance
* Develop business cases, monitor KPIs, and drive continuous improvement
* Represent the BIDs at meetings, events, and consultations
* Promote sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation across all initiatives
About You
* Proven background in operations, programme, or project management
* Strong understanding of BIDs, regeneration, or local authority frameworks
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
* Strategic thinker with strong organisational and financial acumen
* Experience leading teams and managing complex, fast‑paced delivery
* Confident working independently and collaboratively
Desirable
* Knowledge of placemaking, urban development, and public realm projects
* Proficiency with CRM and Microsoft Office tools
* Experience managing contractors and event delivery
* Willingness to attend early morning or evening events when required
