Lead Electrical Engineer
Location: Manchester (Hybrid - typically 2-3 days in the office)
Hours: 40 hours per week
Sector: Water
Projects: Multiple Water Frameworks
Rate: £55-£65 Ltd per hour
(Subject to an IR35 assessment confirming Outside IR35 status)
Role Summary
The Lead Electrical Engineer will be responsible for delivering the electrical engineering scope across multiple water framework projects. The role involves technical leadership, team oversight, stakeholder engagement, and ensuring all work is delivered safely, compliantly, and to high-quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the delivery of electrical engineering scope including schedule and MDR creation, change control, project reporting, and leading meetings.
* Delegate work packages and provide technical guidance to the electrical engineering team.
* Support project estimates, CTR development, and planning activities.
* Ensure compliance with UK legislation, industry standards, and applicable procedures.
Technical Responsibilities
* Prepare, check, and approve engineering documentation:
o Basis of Design
o Power system calculations
o Earthing & lightning protection calculations
o Equipment sizing, load schedules & datasheets
o SLDs, cable schedules, MTOs, BCDs
o Schematics, layouts & routing designs
* Prepare requisitions for major electrical equipment (HV/LV switchboards, transformers, motors, UPS, lighting, trace heating, PFC, etc.).
* Review supplier quotations and prepare technical bid evaluations.
* Prepare installation scopes of work.
* Support design assurance and quality compliance activities.
Specialist Activities (As Required)
* HV power system modelling and protection studies.
* Liaison with DNOs and other external stakeholders.
* Electrical equipment ageing and obsolescence management.
* Assist site teams with operational issues.
Qualifications
* Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering (relevant apprenticeships considered).
* Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or actively working toward it.
Technical Experience
* 15+ years' engineering experience in the water sector or similar industries.
* Strong understanding of design and installation practices.
* In-depth knowledge of UK legislation and electrical standards.
* Experience with ATEX and equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres.
* Familiarity with CE marking requirements (ATEX, PED, Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive, EMC).
* Awareness of HSE and risk management practices.
