Program Director
Accountable for leading the successful and efficient delivery of digital transformation programmes across Kainos’s Healthcare Sector client group portfolio. Responsible for managing and strengthening delivery across multiple engagements, often spanning multiple teams, contractors, suppliers and technologies, ensuring clear governance, effective collaboration, and a strong emphasis on achieving outcomes that meet client needs.
Additional responsibilities include driving account growth by identifying new opportunities, building relationships with Director and CxO‑level stakeholders, and shaping proposals that reflect evolving client priorities. Responsible for ownership of demand for staff across engagements and working closely with BU Operations to manage delivery capacity and resourcing decisions. Supporting and empowering Kainos teams is central to the role.
Responsibilities
* Delivery leadership – take ownership of complex programme delivery, ensuring workstreams are aligned to strategic goals and deliver measurable value.
* Assurance and governance – establish and maintain effective governance structures, ensuring clear accountability and robust risk management.
* Commercial management – meet or exceed profitability targets, ensuring accurate and timely forecasting and reporting of key project metrics such as cost, revenue, and margin.
* Account growth – proactively identify and develop new opportunities to expand footprint within public accounts, support strategic conversations and develop compelling bids and pitches.
* Innovation – lead and implement process efficiencies, encourage innovation in technology and process, foster culture of innovation within delivery teams.
* People management – lead, motivate and empower individuals within the delivery capability, creating a positive, high‑performing culture.
Qualifications
* Minimum of 7 years of experience in programme management within the Public Sector, preferably Healthcare.
* Proven experience planning, coordinating and managing complex programmes across multiple teams and suppliers, circa 50+ staff.
* Experience in leading bespoke software delivery, including data and cloud platforms.
* Experience in using agile methodologies within structured governance frameworks.
* Proven track record of delivering complex £10m+ per annum programmes on time and within budget, fast‑moving, complex delivery environments.
* Client‑facing experience, building and managing relationships with senior stakeholders at Director and/or CxO level.
* Strong experience in managing and leading programme teams including line management responsibility.
* Experience supporting business development and account growth: contributing to strategic planning, identifying opportunities, shaping bid and tender responses.
* Experience leading or contributing to bid responses for large Public Sector procurements.
* Strong commercial awareness and project dynamics understanding, especially in a multi‑supplier environment.
* Experience establishing robust project governance and technical quality standards.
* Broad technology experience, awareness of current trends and contemporary software engineering practices.
* Strong ability to make reasoned decisions under pressure, balancing client demands with commercial interests.
* Personal attributes: personable, credible, effective communicator, strong negotiating prowess, mature, firm but non‑confrontational, positive attitude.
* Highly flexible, including willingness to work away from home base.
