The Species and Communities Program coordinates the listing, management and recovery of threatened species, ecological communities and wetlands. The program provides policy, strategic and technical advice on fauna, flora, ecological community and wetland conservation, and manages projects for the promotion of conservation on land not managed by the department.
We are seeking to establish a pool of suitable candidates in the role of Conservation Officer.
This position contributes to the ongoing conservation and management of Western Australian biodiversity with emphasis on conservation significant species and ecological communities, through conservation listing assessments, development of conservation data, written reports, policy advice and input to other processes as they arise. In addition, this position liaises with departmental staff, external stakeholders and the community on issues relating to biodiversity conservation.

Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following four (4) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than two (2) pages in total.
1. Experience in the field of biodiversity conservation, including knowledge of and experience in the management of biodiversity data.
2. Demonstrated experience in assessing impacts on biodiversity of development projects and implementation of recovery programs to achieve biodiversity conservation goals.
3. Well-developed ability to communicate and negotiate effectively with a range of audiences, including the ability to effectively convey scientific concepts to stakeholders with a non-scientific background.
4. Well-developed ability to work effectively in a team environment to achieve common goals.
