Electrical Hardware Engineer – Rullion Utilities
We are looking for enthusiastic & experienced engineers to join our client’s existing Energy team to perform all aspects of E,C & I design and implementation. The role includes designing electrical and control systems focused on PLC based control panels, but also covers cabling, MCCs, drives & controls, switchgear and related EC&I equipment primarily within the thermal and hydro power generation sector, with the possibility of working in other sectors.
Summary of Role
This position would suit a professional who has a strong grounding in Electrical Engineering, Control Panel Design and Build, and who enjoys working in an engineering environment, with a keen desire to become involved in all aspects of a project and to learn and develop new skills as part of an experienced and committed team.
Responsibilities
* Lead and drive the project team
* Review and approve designs developed by the team
* Ensure compliance of the team to agreed procedures, methods and standards with engineering design responsibilities
* Interpret and verify customer supplied data, specifications and drawings
* Lead/produce system designs from customer supplied information
* Lead the creation/modification of design packs including system drawings, general arrangements, schematics, wiring diagrams and site cable drawings
* Produce client design documentation and test documentation
* Produce all necessary documentation to support the production of the systems such as FDS, Test Documentation, Manuals, etc.
* Lead site surveys and assist in the preparation of Health & Safety documentation
* Support site acceptance testing/commissioning
* Support the production of tender documents and cost estimates
* Be competent in control systems within the energy market (or similar utility)
* Be competent in field cabling systems (P, Inst, Contr and comms) including surveying, identifying routes, cable sizing and earthing/protection
* Hold a degree or HND with additional experience of at least 5 years post‑graduate experience (or 6 years post‑HND experience) on successful project implementation in the above areas
* Be computer literate with Word, Autocad and Excel experience
* Have a methodical approach to interpreting customer requirements and delivering project documentation
* Understand the full project lifecycle
* Hold a current full driving licence (UK or be able to convert to full UK)
* Be willing to undergo a basic disclosure check
* Have experience in at least one of the following: Rockwell (Control Logix); site installation and commissioning of control systems; motor control centre specification, procurement and installation
* Have a good understanding of BS7671 (IEE 18th Edition) wiring regulations
* Be aware of DSEAR regulations and hazardous area applications
* Be aware of functional safety (IEC 61508/61511)
* Be able to work to deadlines and budgets
* Be familiar with databases
Qualifications
* Minimum 5 years post‑graduate experience (or 6 years post‑HND) in relevant electrical/control engineering roles
* Experience with Rockwell Control Logix platform
* Proficiency in control system installation, commissioning and maintenance
* Knowledge of motor control centre specification, procurement and installation
* Strong understanding of BS7671 (IEE 18th Edition) wiring regulations
* Familiarity with DSEAR regulations and hazardous area requirements
* Knowledge of functional safety standards (IEC 61508/61511)
* Hands‑on experience of MS Office and CAD tools
* Methodical and detail‑oriented approach to project documentation
