A well-regarded and ambitious 11–18 secondary school in Chesterfield is seeking to appoint a committed and confident Teacher of Mathematics to join its established Maths department. This is a full-time, permanent position in a school known for its clear routines, strong academic focus and supportive staff culture.

Mathematics is a core priority within the school, and the department plays a key role in driving whole-school attainment. This opportunity would suit a Maths teacher who values clarity, consistency and strong classroom practice.

-----------------------------------

The Role

You will teach Mathematics across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to teach KS5 for candidates with suitable experience. The Maths curriculum is carefully sequenced and focuses on developing secure mathematical understanding through explicit instruction, regular practice and structured problem-solving.

At Key Stage 3, lessons build strong numerical fluency and confidence, with a particular emphasis on reasoning and mathematical language. Teaching approaches are consistent across the department, ensuring students experience clarity and continuity as they progress through the school.

At GCSE, the focus is on mastery of key concepts, exam technique and confidence under timed conditions. Intervention strategies are well planned and supported by the department, allowing teachers to target support effectively without excessive additional workload.

Where A-Level teaching is involved, small class sizes and close collaboration enable staff to support students towards strong outcomes and university progression.

-----------------------------------

The Maths Department

The Maths department is a stable, experienced team with a strong culture of collaboration. Schemes of work, assessments and lesson resources are centrally planned and regularly reviewed, reducing planning pressure while maintaining high standards.

Department meetings are purposeful and focused on:

* Curriculum sequencing and refinement

* Assessment and intervention strategies

* Sharing effective classroom practice

New staff are supported through structured induction and mentoring, and there is a clear commitment to professional dialogue and continuous improvement.

-----------------------------------

The School

This Good-rated secondary school serves a broad community and is recognised for its calm, orderly environment and strong pastoral care. Students respond well to consistent expectations and benefit from a school-wide focus on respect, effort and progress.

Leadership is visible and supportive, with a strong emphasis on staff wellbeing. Workload is carefully managed, and teachers are trusted as professionals to deliver high-quality lessons without unnecessary bureaucracy.

Staff turnover is low, and many teachers describe the school as a place where they feel valued, supported and able to develop their careers long-term.

-----------------------------------

Facilities and Teaching Environment

The Maths department is based in a dedicated area of the school, with classrooms equipped to support clear modelling and explanation. Visualisers and interactive screens are widely used to support step-by-step instruction and live worked examples.

Shared digital resources ensure consistency across classes and year groups, and intervention materials are readily available to support targeted teaching.

-----------------------------------

Professional Development

The school offers strong professional development opportunities, including:

* Subject-specific CPD within Maths

* Coaching and peer observation

* Opportunities to take on responsibility within the department

* Support for progression into leadership roles

Early career and experienced teachers alike are supported to develop at a sustainable pace.

-----------------------------------

The Ideal Candidate

You will:

* Hold QTS or equivalent

* Have strong subject knowledge in Mathematics

* Be confident teaching KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)

* Value structured teaching and clear explanations

* Be reflective, organised and collaborative

-----------------------------------

Why Apply?

* Well-established, supportive Maths department

* Clear curriculum and shared resources

* Calm classrooms and positive behaviour

* Strong leadership with realistic expectations
