Job Title: Clerk of Works
The main responsibility of a Clerk of Works will be to undertake regular inspections of construction work, such as residential developments, to monitor progress and quality, verifying compliance with contractual drawings.
Projects will largely be new build and refurbishment projects with a strong emphasis on the residential sector.
The business operates nationwide but is specifically looking to hire a Clerk of Works to manage sites around Bedford, Bedfordshire.
The role is offered on a permanent PAYE basis only. A driving license is essential.
Responsibilities and Duties
* Oversee residential building works on allocated sites to ensure quality, safety, and timely completion.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory and employer’s requirements.
* Conduct inspections, record defects, and communicate issues to relevant parties.
* Stay updated with building regulations and compliance standards.
* Demonstrate understanding of building and housing industry practices, materials, trades, and legal requirements.
* Prepare and submit high-standard written reports promptly.
* Organize snagging and defect inspections with clients.
Desired Skills and Experience
* Experience in a similar construction role, such as Clerk of Works, Employers Agent, Site Inspector, Quality Control Inspector, or Site Manager.
* Relevant commercial experience, preferably with a contracting organization.
* Experience inspecting residential projects.
* Ability to produce professional reports.
* Good industry knowledge, including reading construction drawings.
* Organized and methodical approach.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
* Ability to work under pressure calmly and professionally.
* Proficiency in MS Word and Outlook.
* Driving license.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
Clerk of Works ICWIC accreditation is highly desirable. A formal qualification in construction, engineering, or project management is advantageous.
