The Vacancy

We’re looking for a skilled and motivated pensions professional to join our Trustee Executive Services team. This role is ideal for someone with hands‑on experience as a Scheme Secretary (or Assistant Scheme Secretary) to Defined Benefit pension schemes, who is ready to take ownership of client relationships and play a key part in driving high‑quality governance.

You’ll work alongside colleagues across our pensions management and consulting areas, with the support of a wider team for each scheme. For larger appointments, you will also have the guidance of a dedicated Scheme Overseer to ensure you have the direction and resources you need to deliver confidently and effectively.

*We are open to considering candidates on a part time or full-time basis*

What will your role look like?

You will be central to helping our clients navigate the complexities of pension scheme governance. You’ll build and nurture trusted relationships, bring clarity and structure to trustee activity, and support the delivery of high‑quality, well‑run schemes.

Collaboration sits at the heart of this role. You’ll work closely with trustees, advisers and colleagues across the firm, bringing your expertise, professionalism and proactive mindset to every interaction.

Though this is a varied role, your key tasks will include:

1. Taking an active role in leading and developing strong client relationships.
2. Coordinating main board and sub‑committee meetings, ensuring high‑quality minutes are produced.
3. Shaping agendas and supporting trustees to prioritise key matters.
4. Managing actions between meetings and liaising with trustees and scheme stakeholders.
5. Handling trustee discretion cases and member complaint matters.
6. Overseeing budgets and invoice monitoring.
7. Managing inputs into the Scheme Return and ensuring timely submission to The Pensions Regulator.
8. Overseeing project work such as member newsletters, MND elections and other governance activities.
9. Leading on broader governance work, including drafting Own Risk Assessments, supporting risk management activity and conducting board effectiveness evaluations.
10. Travelling to client sites and Hymans Robertson offices as needed.
11. Adhering to the firm's Information Security policies, standards and procedures.

To enjoy and succeed in this role, you will have:

Qualifications:

12. Ideally a professional (or part‑professional) pensions qualification such as APMI, AFPC or IFoA.
13. Ideally an Honours Degree.
14. Education to A‑Level/Scottish Higher or equivalent experience.

Skills:

15. Experience supporting UK pension funds within a complex pensions environment.
16. Strong technical understanding of the UK pensions legislative framework.
17. Excellent time management, organisational and analytical skills.
18. Skilled at managing multiple stakeholders with differing priorities.
19. Strong influencing and relationship‑building skills.
20. Strong written communication skills.
21. A proactive approach to problem‑solving.
22. Consultancy experience.

Personal characteristics:

23. Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
24. Able to build trust and rapport across a wide range of individuals.
25. A confident communicator.
26. Self‑motivated and proactive.
27. A collaborative team player.
28. Diplomatic, persuasive and professional.

We would also encourage applications from candidates who perhaps do not possess all the attributes and experience listed above but are competent with the majority and would be able to quickly develop the additional skills and experience required in post with our full support. We would also love to hear about other knowledge and experience you may have that is not listed but could be of interest.

In addition to a competitive salary and access to our profit share scheme, we offer:

29. A flexible selection of employee benefits, so you can choose a package that best matches your lifestyle and needs.
30. A collaborative and encouraging work environment where your thinking and ideas are encouraged.
31. On site mental health and wellbeing assistance.
32. A commitment to helping you develop both personally and professionally, with mentoring opportunities and access to our award-winning learning portal, Aspire.
33. Regular social activities, in addition to three days paid volunteering leave each year and a day’s leave to celebrate your birthday.
34. Hybrid working so you can enjoy the positive wellbeing of working from home as well as the benefits of meeting colleagues in our sociable, modern office environments – with the expectation of two ‘in-office’ days per week.
35. A flexible working window, allowing colleagues the freedom to work flexibly between the hours of 7am and 7pm.

Please note, we recruit on a rolling basis so early applications are recommended to avoid disappointment.
