Job Summary
Health Care Assistant – Enfield Mental Health Inpatient Services (Chase Farm Site). This role will be allocated and agreed via plans of care, assessed and evaluated by a registered nurse. You will implement, deliver care under the guidance of experienced registered practitioners, supported by ongoing supervision and support.
Responsibilities
* Communicate any changes in service users’ condition promptly to the named nurse.
* Accompany patients, including escorting sectioned patients, to various agencies, centres and hospitals in the community and outside the Trust as required.
* Respect patients’ cultural, social and religious beliefs and provide social, spiritual, emotional and physical care.
* Ensure patients’ nutritional support and personal care needs are met, assisting with feeding and meal service where necessary.
* Assist trained staff to uphold a high standard of nursing care, including close and physical observations on patients.
* Help maintain a safe and pleasant physical environment for patients and staff.
* Safely keep patients’ nursing and medical records, including appropriate entries on RiO.
* Safeguard patients’ property and valuables in accordance with policies.
* Develop and maintain appropriate relationships with patients, relatives and carers.
Person Specification
Essential
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
* GCSE level or equivalent (minimum of 5 A–E qualifications, including Maths and English).
* Awareness of key principles of the MHA 1983 as applied to the role of the Nursing Assistant.
* Demonstrated understanding of the needs of people with mental health problems and acute health issues or physical disabilities.
* Currently working in a care delivery role in a mental health or substance misuse, acute or community setting.
* Ability to maintain boundaries and form positive therapeutic relationships with service users.
* Well-developed interpersonal skills.
* Willingness to work flexibly in response to changing ward situations.
* Effective communication skills – verbal and written.
Desirable
* Current experience within a Mental Health or Substance Misuse Team.
* Experience with patients who have acute health issues and/or physical disabilities.
