Previous experience within science laboratories, education support or technical support roles would be highly beneficial.DUTIESYour duties as the Senior Science Technician include:Preparing Experiments and Equipment: Setting up practical lessons, demonstrations, apparatus and laboratory materials for science teaching activitiesMaintaining Laboratory Standards: Ensuring laboratories, preparation rooms and equipment remain clean, organised and safe for useManaging Chemicals and Resources: Handling, storing and disposing of chemicals and hazardous materials in line with COSHH, CLEAPSS and health and safety guidanceSupporting Teaching Staff: Assisting teachers and students during lessons, practical exercises, field projects and educational activitiesMonitoring Equipment and Inventory: Maintaining laboratory equipment, updating inventories and arranging repairs where requiredStock Control and Purchasing: Supporting stock checks, ordering consumables and monitoring departmental expenditure against budgetHealth and Safety Compliance: Carrying out safety checks, maintaining risk assessment records and supporting laboratory safety proceduresTeam Support and Training: Assisting with inductions, training staff on laboratory procedures and supporting other science techniciansAdministrative Support: Completing science-based clerical duties including record keeping, filing and maintaining accurate documentationCANDIDATE REQUIREMENTSESSENTIALGCSEs or equivalent qualifications in English, Maths and SciencePrevious experience within a science laboratory, technician or educational support environmentKnowledge of laboratory equipment, health and safety procedures and COSHH regulationsStrong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasksExcellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with staff and studentsAbility to work independently and collaboratively as part of a teamWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office applicationsCommitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and professional standardsWillingness to complete first aid training if not already qualifiedDESIRABLEPost-16 science qualification or Level 4 qualificationKnowledge of CLEAPSS guidance and laboratory compliance proceduresExperience of stock control, purchasing and budget monitoringExperience supervising or supporting other techniciansExperience assisting with practical science demonstrations and student activitiesBENEFITSCompetitive rates of payProfessional development opportunitiesCareer pathways across the organisationTeacher / Local Authority Pension SchemeOnline retail discountEmployee Assistance ProgrammeFamily-friendly policiesFlexible working arrangementsThe successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and Social Media checkAPPLY TODAYBy submitting your job application to us you are hereby giving us your express consent to submit your details to our Client for this purpose.JOB REF: AWDO-P14732Full-Time, Permanent Education and Scientific Jobs, Careers and Vacancies.
