Sussex Pathology is a dynamic and fast-growing diagnostics company providing high-quality private blood testing services across the UK. We operate a network of clinics and process all samples in our own state-of-the-art laboratory, accredited to UKAS ISO 15189 standards.
We are now seeking an experienced Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Haematology) to join our team in Crawley.
The Role
This role requires significant technical expertise and the ability to work independently in a busy haematology service. You will be responsible for advanced analysis and interpretation, supporting the quality and compliance of the department, and ensuring accurate and timely results.
Key responsibilities include:
* Performing and interpreting blood films, morphology, and coagulation testing to a high standard.
* Independently validating Haematology results and escalating clinical concerns as required.
* Acting as technical lead for Haematology equipment, troubleshooting, and liaising with engineers.
* Overseeing IQC, EQA, calibrations, and method verifications.
* Supporting and mentoring junior staff with training and competency assessments.
* Maintaining SOPs and ensuring compliance with UKAS ISO 15189.
* Participating in audits, non-conformance investigations, and CAPAs.
* Covering other lab areas as required and taking part in weekend/out-of-hours rotas.
About You
Essential qualifications & experience:
* BSc in Biomedical Science.
* HCPC registration.
* Minimum 6 years' post-registration experience in Haematology within an accredited medical laboratory.
* Strong, demonstrable experience in blood film review, morphology, and coagulation.
* Proven ability to work independently and make sound clinical judgements.
Skills & knowledge:
* In-depth technical knowledge of Haematology and coagulation.
* Strong understanding of UKAS ISO 15189 standards.
* Excellent organizational, mentoring, and communication skills.
* IT proficient (MS Office, LIMS, QMS).
