Mechanical Integrity Engineer - Impact and Containment
Full Time
Location: Derby/Hybrid (3 days a week in office)
As a Mechanical Integrity Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, analysis, testing, and fleet/manufacturing support of aero-engine components to withstand extreme events such as bird strikes, trailing blade integrity, ice impact, and fan/core blade off. The work is diverse and covers a wide range of programmes.

You will join the Impact and Containment Capability Team within Mechanical Design and Integrity - Structures and Controls, part of Engineering Technology and Safety. We foster an inclusive, innovative culture that supports your growth and allows you to make a difference.

Your responsibilities:
1. Execute finite element analyses (e.g., LS-DYNA) for extreme events like fan blade off containment, bird strikes, and ice ingestion.
2. Plan, coordinate, and analyze tests to validate engineering tools and methods.
3. Support impact-related requirements development, design, verification, manufacturing, and lifecycle sustainment.
4. Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical strategies.
5. Improve engineering methods and processes continually.
6. Provide fleet support through the Technical Variance process, including on-wing support, customer problem resolution, and investigations.
7. Support manufacturing by assessing concessions, permits, and drawing change requests.
8. Engage with airframe providers like Boeing and Airbus on impact and containment work.
9. Design containment systems from concept to certification, including testing and validation.
10. Offer engineering support across various departments interfacing with fan containment systems.
Candidate profile:
* Degree or equivalent in Engineering.
* Understanding of engineering principles and decision-making skills.
* Logical problem-solving approach.
* Strong digital skills, preferably including Linux.
* Good reporting and presentation skills using Office tools.
* Experience in collaborative work, handling ambiguity and conflict.
* Ability to travel within the UK for testing and research.
