Job Description What your new role will entail: We are recruiting for a Principal/Associate Director Protection & Control Engineer to join our growing electricity Transmission & Distribution team. The focus of the team is large-scale HV grid infrastructure, grid connections, and private networks, particularly in projects where renewable energy, resilience, energy efficiency, and carbon reduction can support global efforts to combat climate change. The team delivers management, FEED design of electrical power projects at transmission voltages ranging from 132kV to 400kV. The role requires P&C engineering knowledge and skills, with proven experience in the design and specification (including calculation of settings) of equipment used in electrical networks and renewable generation. You will need to have strong experience in working with transmission voltages 275kV/400kV and will probably have a consulting, utility, renewable generation or OEM background. Being part of the team: Committed to addressing the complete spectrum of energy challenges, we offer expertise in the following sectors: renewable energy (wind and solar), hydropower, bio-energy (including energy from waste), energy efficiency and carbon management, thermal power generation, nuclear power and transmission and distribution. The Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Engineering team provides a range of services from the initial concept through High Voltage Power Systems Analysis, Cabling, Substations, Transmission and Distribution Infrastructure, System Balancing and Compensation, Protection Systems, SCADA, Communications, Converter Station Design, HVDC Systems and Interconnectors including overseas links. We provide development, design, maintenance and project management for all services and comply with client and other stakeholder’s quality, technical, commercial, safety and environmental requirements. The work typically comes from: Large projects and frameworks with transmission network operators mostly in UK. Client and owners engineer role on construction of HV infrastructure. Connections of renewable generation and hyperscale data centres. Internal AECOM clients delivering large industrial and electrification projects. Working to modernise the UK’s Energy Infrastructure AECOM has been recently appointed to provide design and consenting services for the UK's National Grid’s Great Grid Program, in a joint venture with Arup. This £9bn initiative aims to enhance the electricity transmission network, ensuring integration of renewable energy sources, including offshore wind farms, into the grid by 2030, which will also support future projects beyond 2030. The project focuses on upgrading infrastructure to meet future energy demands, reduce fossil fuel dependency, and support the UK's net zero emissions target.
