Locally Employed Doctor – ST3+ Haematology

ESHT offers an excellent opportunity to gain broad clinical and laboratory Haematology experience as a LAS 3+ in a busy but friendly haematology department. You will work alongside six haematology consultants, one SAS doctor and four haematology clinical nurse specialists. A team of three FY2 resident doctors also cover inpatient haematology. This post is not recognised for training but offers substantial clinical and laboratory exposure and many educational opportunities, ideal for doctors seeking a broad foundation before specialty training. Clinical duties include outpatient clinics, inpatient care with intensive chemotherapy, and laboratory haematology and bone marrow biopsy experience.
You must be eligible to work in the UK, hold full GMC registration, and a license to practice. MRCP preferred; prior haematology experience or strong interest is desirable.
Clinical Responsibilities
* Provide direct care for patients with haematological disorders in both inpatient wards and outpatient clinics.
* Participate in on‑call rota, managing urgent referrals and acute haematological emergencies.
* Collaborate closely with consultants, junior doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals to deliver holistic care.
Laboratory & Diagnostic Duties
* Interpret blood films, bone marrow aspirates, and other haematological investigations.
* Provide clinical input to laboratory services, including transfusion medicine and coagulation studies.
Teaching & Training
* Support and mentor junior medical staff, including CT2 and foundation doctors.
* Contribute to teaching for medical students, ward nursing teams, and clinical nurse specialists.
Audit, Research & Development
* Participate in clinical audit to improve service quality and patient outcomes.
* Engage in research activities, especially in rapidly evolving areas such as malignant haematology.
* Develop expertise in subspecialties of interest.
