The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant.
There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, this will be dependant upon factors such as workload and staffing levels.
Assisting healthcare professionals in providing high-quality patient care.
Conducting new patient health checks, measurements, and routine tests.
Supporting patients with various healthcare needs, such as dressing changes, wound care, compression bandaging, ECGs, working within your scope of practice.
Ear irrigation if trained under the supervision of the Practice Nurse, and support the Practice Nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics.
When trained, administer B12 injections.
Maintaining accurate patient records and assisting with administrative tasks as required.
Upholding infection control standards and ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients.
Carry out BMI checks as directed.
Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transport.
Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisation's IPC policy.
Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate, working within your scope of practice.
