Would you like to help make a difference to our patients by becoming a Phlebotomist at Colchester Hospital?
We are looking for phlebotomists to play a key patient-focused role in our hospital, where you will be collecting blood samples directly from patients by venipuncture. This role is both clinic and ward-based, with 16 or 16.5 hours per week.
Please note, you will not be testing samples in the laboratory, as this role does not include laboratory work.
You need good communication skills to engage with patients with varying needs and good IT skills to navigate our patient databases and record samples.
No prior phlebotomy experience is required, as full training will be provided.
We have 16 and 16.5 hours per week posts available. You will work a variety of shifts within the 7-day week, with hours ranging between 07:30 and 18:00. All phlebotomy staff are required to participate in covering weekdays, weekends, bank holidays, including Christmas, on a rota basis, and to cover short-notice absences. Responsibilities include:
1. Collect blood samples directly from patients by venipuncture.
2. Accurately identify patients and label samples.
3. Perform duties in various locations, e.g., outpatient departments, wards, and general practice.
4. Record data accurately on the computer system.
5. Maintain records related to activities carried out.
6. Work in hospital ward environments with patients who may be severely debilitated.
7. Communicate effectively with patients of varying needs.
8. Adhere strictly to established protocols and trust policies.
9. Maintain and promote the professional image of ESNEFT.
