The NIHR Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London has recently been awarded funding to optimise the delivery of world class research in ophthalmology and science associated with vision and sight. The Facility forms part of the Moorfields NIHR Biomedical Research Centre for Ophthalmology and is one of three London based Academic Health Science centres which together form the University College London Partners. The CRF is dedicated to the delivery of high quality clinical research, including experimental medicine and translational research studies, and offers a clinical environment supported by ophthalmic research nurses, administrators and technicians. Part Time or Full time will be considered. Previous Applicants need not apply.
Main duties of the job
* Develop a clear understanding of the data resources available from Moorfields’ clinical systems.
* Work independently and with the AI and Data Science team to design and implement machine learning tools that extract clinically relevant features from ophthalmic imaging.
* Contribute to the creation of web applications for deployment of clinical and imaging data analytics tools to support a learning healthcare system.
* Develop, validate, and implement AI algorithms for ophthalmic image segmentation and analysis that are robust and clinically meaningful.
* Support the development of database management platforms for the Reading Centre to underpin data handling and accessibility.
* Advance AI-driven diagnostic and prognostic models for eye diseases to improve patient care and outcomes.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
To independently provide ophthalmic imaging interpretation, analysis, and modelling for both commercial and research-grade high-resolution ophthalmic instruments. This includes developing algorithms and analytics for imaging modalities such as adaptive optics, optical coherence tomography, and digital photography of anterior and posterior segments. Responsibilities include designing research methodologies, analysing data, preparing reports, and presenting results; interpreting large data sets in the context of other clinical tests; and transferring clinical and technical information to PhD students. The role requires understanding a range of specialized imaging procedures and performing manual activities involving patients and equipment.

Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
* Awareness of national standards, professional guidelines relevant to the development and interpretation of specialist imaging
* Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
* ICH-GCP compliant
* In-depth knowledge and practical application of ophthalmic imaging devices
Experience
Essential criteria
* At least 5 years’ experience in scientific/technical medical imaging
* Programming experience in Matlab, Python; experience with imaging editing tools (e.g., GIMP)
* Line management experience
* Previous participation in clinical research
Education
Essential criteria
* PhD in imaging sciences
* Postgraduate qualification in related subject at Masters level or equivalent experience
