Responsibilities
A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a vital role in the rehabilitation and care of patients with diverse physical, mental, or emotional conditions. The main goal of a COTA is to help individuals develop, recover, improve, and maintain skills necessary for daily living and working. Key responsibilities include:
1. Patient Care Execution: Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, the COTA implements therapeutic plans, teaches patients to use adaptive equipment, guides exercises, and engages patients in activities essential for their recovery.
2. Activity and Program Planning: The COTA assists in planning and selecting therapeutic activities tailored to each patient's needs and interests, aligning with the goals set by the occupational therapist.
3. Progress Monitoring: The COTA regularly observes, documents, and reports patient progress, adjusting therapy interventions as needed to ensure ongoing improvement.
4. Patient and Family Education: Educating patients and families about therapy processes, adaptive equipment, and home modifications to support continued recovery and independence.
Qualifications
* Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
* Current license/certification in the state of practice
