If the answer is yes, then please read on.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Coventry’s growing Post 16 pathways to employment provision for young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The team forms part of the Skills, Employment and Adult Education service and works alongside the Council’s SEND team - designed to improve the lives of young people with SEND, striving to provide better choice and control, good quality support and the opportunity to progress in life through a range of employment pathways.

You will support individuals on our study programmes which includes supported internships and Step into Work, working with them to identify their skills, experience and aspirations. Your role will be to support individuals to access employment related opportunities and become independent in their roles and provide the necessary coaching, training and encouragement to enable them to succeed. This will include getting to know each individual, helping to match them to the right opportunities and then providing them with on-the-job training and support in the workplace. You will also liaise with the young person’s family, education provider and other people involved in their life to ensure that the support you provide is tailored to the young person’s needs.

You will work closely with employers to identify and create opportunities and ensure that they are supported and can confidently manage, train and support customers once your support has been faded and withdrawn. This will involve working with the individual’s workplace colleagues to help them to develop the skills and confidence they need, identifying the various tasks that make up the role and working with the employer to develop a training plan. You will carry out regular monitoring visits and reviews to ensure that placements are going well and that individuals are progressing.

The Pathways to Employment Team operates in line with the Supported Employment Model:. Training and support will be provided.

Who are we looking for?

You will be committed to Equality and Inclusion and fundamentally believe that everyone has the right to be part of and contribute to the economy regardless of the challenges they may experience. You will believe that with the right opportunity and support everyone can achieve, make a positive contribution and have a meaningful and fulfilling life.

You will be passionate about promoting independence and enabling people to achieve.

You will have a can-do approach and the ability to find creative solutions to overcome obstacles.

You will have the skills and ability to provide support and guidance in a discreet manner ensuring that individuals are enabled to show their potential and that employers are supported to see the skills and abilities the young person has to offer.
