Job Title: Senior Electrical, Control & Automation Engineer
Reports to: Manufacturing & Engineering Manager
Location: Colworth Science Park
Job Purpose: The ice cream processing team at Colworth is looking for a Senior Electrical, Control & Automation Engineer to develop working specifications for electrical, controls, and automation solutions on innovation projects. You will work with brand, mechanical, and process engineering teams to design and deliver scalable systems for test rigs, prototype machines and pilot plant equipment, support global launching of new product innovations, and contribute to quality, sustainability and waste‑reduction initiatives.
Responsibilities
* Work with Brand & Product Development, Mechanical Designers and Process Engineers to produce specifications that meet customer requirements for electrical, controls and automation.
* Plan electrical, control and automation aspects, set timescales, and define budgets to ensure on‑time delivery.
* Produce drawings and take electrical and control design responsibilities.
* Interact with suppliers and contractors to buy components, build or supervise control systems, and manage wiring of electrical, instrumentation and pneumatic equipment.
* Install, commission and modify prototype machines and rigs on site and at associated facilities abroad.
* Repair, fault‑find and improve control systems, generating solutions for equipment issues.
* Observe all electrical safety rules and codes (PUWER, CE marking, etc.) and enforce TMICC regulations.
* Train users and write operating instructions or manuals when required.

* Knowledge of UK safety rules and codes (and EU legislation).

Experience Requirements
* Engineering degree in Electronics, Control, Instrumentation or Electrical/Controls apprenticeship.
* Electrical inspection, testing and fault finding.
* Proven experience designing and building process control systems.
* Experience in electric, pneumatic and/or mechanical engineering.
* Project management experience.
* Hands‑on work with Siemens (TIA Portal, Logix) or Rockwell (Studio 5000).

Travel Requirements
