Overview
Job title: Consultant (Fixed term 12 months) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a Special interest in Urogynaecology. This is a one-year fixed term locum consultant post based at Tunbridge Wells Hospital, Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, pending substantive appointment. The post supports expansion of maternity services and recovery of gynaecology services. The successful candidate will integrate with the team of existing Consultants and provide a complete Obstetrics and Gynaecology service across the Trust.
Main duties
The successful applicant will work on both sites of the Trust providing emergency cover and on-call duties. There is a weekday hot week on-call from 08:00 to 18:00, with an equal share of the 1:17-night time on-call rota.
About us
The Trust comprises Tunbridge Wells Hospital and Maidstone Hospital, serving a population of approximately 500,000 people in West Kent and East Sussex. Obstetric service is based at Tunbridge Wells Hospital with Birth Centres adjacent to Maidstone Hospital and in Crowborough. Approximately 5,800 babies are delivered per annum across the three units. Gynaecology inpatients and most emergencies are treated at Tunbridge Wells Hospital; ambulatory gynaecology and outpatient services are at both hospitals.

Job responsibilities
The job plan will be flexible to support service reset and recovery plans and may be altered depending on the skills and experience of the appointed candidate. This will be managed by the Clinical Director and the Head of Service.
Gynaecology commitments include a general gynaecology clinic and a Urogynaecology clinic with a dedicated MDT session. A weekly operating list is included in the job plan, with support for operating development where necessary. The plan also includes a high-risk antenatal clinic, labour ward, Caesarean section lists, and emergency gynaecology cover during daytime hours.
Person specification
Essential:
* Full GMC registration
* MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification
* CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (or within 6 months of AAC) or equivalent
* Labour ward ATSM
Desirable:
* Advanced laparoscopic surgery for excision of benign disease
* Benign abdominal surgery: open and laparoscopic
* Benign gynaecological surgery: hysteroscopy
* Experience and involvement in service development
Clinical experience and effectiveness – Essential:
* Clinical training and experience in obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for UK CCST
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care
* Experience in clinical audit/quality improvement
* Well-developed labour ward skills and interest in a progressive multidisciplinary labour ward environment
