The role involves the application of scenario‑based testing approaches for ADAS and Automated Driving Systems, including scenario generation, metrics, defining and analysing the operational design domain (ODD), and using scenario definition languages and ontological concepts. Additionally, the role involves developing testing plans and measuring coverage across functional and safety requirements through systems engineering techniques. Collaboration with a cross‑disciplinary team covering scenario concepts, data science, simulation‑based testing, and safety analysis is essential.
Successful candidates will be exposed to a variety of academic and industrial partners through projects such as Horizon Europe funded SYNERGIES, CERTAIN, EVENTS, i4Driving, and UKRI/Innovate UK initiatives.
Qualifications
 * Strong knowledge and experience in systems engineering concepts and automated vehicle operation.
 * Good understanding of ontology, scenario generation, coverage metrics, operational design domain, and test scenario development.
 * Demonstrated knowledge of standards such as SAE J3016, ISO 21434, ISO 50832, and other relevant safety standards in automated driving.

About the Department
The Safe Autonomy Research Group at WMG undertakes research and engineering across verification and validation of automated transport. The group works with partners worldwide through Innovate UK, Horizon Europe, and commercial industrial partners.
