About the Water Utilities Division
The Water Utilities Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to the UK and Ireland’s water and wastewater challenges. We provide advisory services and feasibility studies to design and detail water and wastewater treatment solutions, preventing urban flooding and improving river and coastal health.
Overview of the Role
We offer a challenging opportunity for a talented Principal/Associate Process Engineer to support the delivery of UK and Ireland clients’ water and wastewater programmes.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
* Lead process engineering input across feasibility, concept, preliminary, and detailed design for water and wastewater treatment projects.
* Develop and review process designs, block flow diagrams, P&IDs, mass balances, and equipment sizing.
* Analyse operational data to identify optimisation opportunities and improve treatment performance.
* Perform process modelling and simulation to support design and operational enhancements.
* Prepare high‑quality technical reports, proposals, and client presentations.
* Check process deliverables for accuracy and compliance.
* Engage with clients and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
* Mentor and support junior engineers, fostering technical growth and team development.
* Collaborate with resource coordinators to manage project resources and support recruitment and training initiatives.
* Support business development by providing technical input to proposals, tenders, and client strategies.
Candidate Specification

Essential Qualifications
* Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering field.
* Chartered Status (CEng) with a recognised Professional Institution.
* Proven experience in municipal water and/or wastewater treatment.
* Strong understanding of conventional and emerging treatment technologies.
* Significant experience in developing and delivering feasibility, outline, and detailed process designs.
* Demonstrated ability to conduct root‑cause analysis and optimise treatment processes.
* Excellent technical report writing skills in concise English.
* Excellent communication skills for client interaction and team collaboration.
* Skilled in reviewing technical deliverables, calculations, and reports.
* Commitment to continuous professional development and staying abreast of emerging technologies.
* Willingness to contribute to technical knowledge networks and promote best practice.
