Overview
Job summary: A fantastic opportunity has become available for an enthusiastic and experienced nurse to join the Haematology Research Team. The team is based at the Centre for Clinical Haematology, University Hospitals Birmingham, which hosts one of the largest adult stem cell transplant programmes in the UK. The team delivers a mix of academic and commercially sponsored clinical trials across haematology, including malignant and non-malignant disease, with experience in complex trials and novel CAR-T therapies.
The Research Nurse will lead the delivery of clinical trials and research projects in collaboration with patients, relatives, the multi-disciplinary team and sponsors, ensuring patients receive the highest level of care in line with trust vision, values, policies and procedures. This role offers a broad, challenging and rewarding opportunity in a dynamic, high-quality research environment.
Location: Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Mindelsohn Way, Birmingham, West Midlands, B15 2TH. Band 6. Status: Permanent. Working pattern: Full-time, Flexible working. Salary: £38,682 to £46,580 per year.
Responsibilities
The post holder will:
* Lead on the delivery of clinical trials and research projects in collaboration with patients, relatives, the multi-disciplinary team and sponsors.
* Ensure patients experience the highest level of care in line with trust policies and procedures.
* Facilitate patient involvement in research by acting as a link between research and patient care.
Qualifications
Essential
* Registered level 1 Adult Nurse on the NMC register.
* Relevant degree or equivalent in nursing.
Desirable
* Health care management / leadership qualification.
Experience
Essential
* Professional portfolio showing continuing professional development and ability to maintain professional registration.
* Substantial post-registration experience in a complex health care setting / acute NHS care setting, including supervising or mentoring junior staff.
* Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in the area, supported by specialist clinical and/or managerial training and CPD.
* Recent clinical experience within the haematology/acute care setting, including supervision/education of junior staff.
* Experience mentoring undergraduate students and leading/coordinating a shift or area of a department.
* Experience learning from incidents/complaints and supporting changes in practice.
Desirable
* Evidence of research knowledge or experience in clinical trials/studies/research coordination.
Additional Criteria
* Demonstrates specialist expertise underpinned by CPD.
* Evidence of involvement and leadership in teaching and mentoring learners.
* Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work under pressure and manage competing demands.
* Ability to articulate safeguarding and mental capacity principles; well organised and a good team leader with flexible shift patterns when required.
* Willingness to work core shift patterns or 24/7 patterns as part of a peer group, including occasional out-of-hours/weekend work.
