Job Purpose and Summary
Pharmacy Technicians support CVS Health’s pharmacy teams by assisting pharmacists and providing high‑quality, efficient, patient‑centered service. They are the first point of contact for patients and customers, ensuring prescriptions are filled safely, promptly, and accurately while upholding CVS policies and federal, state, and local regulations.
Responsibilities
* Follow all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at each workstation to help pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
* Adhere to pharmacy workflow procedures at each station (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
* Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy, offering immunizations or other services at the register or over the phone, and resolving or escalating patient problems.
* Perform inventory activities such as putting away medication deliveries, completing cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, and other tasks as directed by pharmacy leadership.
* Engage in a high‑performing team environment, embrace a growth mindset, seek feedback, and pursue opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge.
* Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, including work shifts in other market stores as required.
* Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, professional standards, and ethical principles; protect patient privacy and maintain controlled‑substance dispensing records.
* Deliver additional patient health care services such as immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, and off‑site clinic staffing when permitted by law and supported by training.
* Support immunizations when permissible:
o Complete additional licensure and training as required by state regulations to obtain technician immunizer status.
o Educate patients on vaccine importance and refer vaccination questions to the pharmacist‑on‑duty.
o Monitor for adverse reactions, report events as required, and document patient information.
o Manage vaccine supplies and related inventory.
Required Qualifications
* Comply with all state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing practice, including age, education, licensure, and certification.
*
o If the board has no age requirement, must be at least 16 years old.
o If the board has no educational requirement, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school or equivalency program.
* State‑level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.
Essential Functions
* Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
* Complete required training within the designated timeframe.
* Attention and focus:
o Concentrate on tasks and pivot quickly between tasks to meet patient and business needs.
o Confirm prescription information and label accuracy to ensure patient safety.
* Customer service and team orientation:
o Actively help people in a friendly manner.
o Notice and understand patient reactions and respond appropriately.
* Communication skills:
o Use verbal and written communication with patients and colleagues.
o Practice active listening without interrupting at inappropriate times.
* Mathematical reasoning:
o Use math to determine tablet counts, day's supply, and required bottle quantity.
* Problem resolution:
o Identify challenging interactions and choose best actions from multiple options.
* Physical demands:
o Remain upright for extended periods, lift, scan, and bag items, reach overhead, repetitively use fingers, lift up to 20 lbs as required.
o Adjust machines with precision; perform tasks requiring visual acuity.
o Communicate spoken instructions accurately and receive detailed oral information.
* Any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
Preferred Qualifications
* 1‑3 years of previous pharmacy technician experience.
* Experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
* Ability to work in the home store and across the market in other locations as needed.
