Overview of the job
The job holder will lead the management and assessment of selected low to medium risk prisoners and prepare, implement, review, and evaluate their sentence plans. They will build effective, appropriate, and supportive relationships with prisoners to reduce re-offending.
The job holder will support probation officers in managing high-risk prisoners. They will undergo specialized training to serve as a Prison Offender Manager for prisoners.
All staff are responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The post holder must undertake relevant training and adhere to the organisation's safeguarding policies.
This is a non-operational role with no line management duties. The position is rotational and involves regular prisoner-facing activities.
Typical tasks include:
1. Supervise, manage, signpost, and advise prisoners safely and securely during activities.
2. Understand, apply, and conform to national and local policies.
3. Establish and maintain professional relationships with prisoners and staff.
4. Maintain and update systems according to local agreements.
5. Prepare documentation for verification and quality checks.
6. Participate in relevant meetings.
7. Assess and manage risks posed by offenders to protect victims and the public, including:
* Providing information and advice to criminal justice agencies and partners.
* Supervising offenders during custodial sentences.
* Contributing to risk management.
* Collaborating with agencies to prevent re-offending and support victims and offenders.
