JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for an outgoing and ambitious Design Engineer or Engineering Graduate with a keen interest in sheet metal CAD and an appreciation of structural calculations (e.g. beam theory) to join our energetic Tooling Design team in the West Midlands. The role will provides essential design support, both internally as well as for our external clients and customers, in all matters relating to the development of cold rolled products.
THE ROLE
1. Provide CAD support for the conceptualisation and development of new sheet metal profiles (Autodesk Inventor) Prototype design concepts to assess feasibility, both with in-house 3D printing, and via sub contract sheet metal prototyping suppliers. Liaise with international commercial teams and our customers to understand functional and quality requirements, whilst ensuring design for manufacture by working with our internal tooling design team. Perform profile geometric analysis (structural calculations) to value engineer sheet metal solutions for optimal stiffness and weight, using FEA where necessary Support and maintain the new tooling enquiry and quotation system, including feasibility assessment Conduct physical testing of materials, prototypes and structures where necessary to support theory Review and interpretation of British/European/American standards and codes of practice to assist with the development of products Support with other Design Engineering activities, such as Drawing and Engineering Changes, Packing Specifications, Production Documentation and CAD system management Ensure that Group Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to. Deal with parts suppliers, involving Purchasing where necessary. Drive innovation and ‘think outside the box’ to generate engineering advantage Identify and implement improvements (functionality, cost, design for manufacture). Carry out any other duties within the capability of the job holder.
THE CANDIDATE
2. Relevant manufacturing / engineering HNC or ONC, A Levels, BTEC Diploma Level 4/3 or equivalent.
3. Working in an manufacturing environment.
4. A strong, robust cold roll forming tool design background of 3 years minimum.
5. Demonstrate practical engineering experience and knowledge of manufacturing processes.
6. Able to effectively train the team.
7. Confidence in delivering presentations in a detailed and professional manner.
8. Mange and coordinate projects.
9. Excellent communication skills.
10. High level of competence with 2D & 3D CAD packages – ideally AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor.
11. High level of competence with Copra-RF & Copra-FEA.
12. Able to draw, read and interpret complex engineering drawings, GA’s and fully understand geometric tolerances limits and fits.
13. Knowledgeable about milling, turning, drilling, grinding & tool making.
14. Knowledge of properties of metals and design principles and heat treatments and coatings.
15. Excellent knowledge of engineering limits and fits.
16. Strong pc skills (Microsoft Office [Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint]).
17. Ability to plan organise manage workload.
18. Good communication skills (written and verbal).
