We are currently looking to appoint a suitably experienced and skilled Band 5 SCBU Staff Nurse to join our friendly team.
Responsibilities
* Ensure relevant experience at Band 5 level in neonatal and paediatric nursing.
* Act as a mentor and supervise student midwives and nurses as well as the junior nursing team.
* Support the Ward Manager in promoting a positive patient experience and unit initiatives.
* Take responsibility for patient assessment, planning of care, implementing safe and compassionate care, and evaluating its effectiveness.
* Facilitate the learning and development of others and demonstrate leadership qualities.
* Uphold the NMC Code of Conduct and act with integrity, promoting the BLISS Baby Charter and UNICEF Baby Friendly Standards.
* Provide high standard, individualised, family‑centred and holistic care to sick and premature infants and their families.
* Partake in the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of patient care programmes.
* Supervise junior staff and students as requested.
* Assist in the management and organisation of the nursing service, including teaching and managing junior staff.
* Maintain clinical skills, acquire new skills, and maintain good record keeping.
* Observe patient’s condition and report any abnormalities to the Senior Sister/Nurse in Charge or to a medical practitioner.
* Ensure National Charter Standards are met and maintain standards set for each area of practice.
* Communicate effectively with patients, their relatives, and colleagues, respecting privacy, dignity and cultural beliefs.
* Provide clinical leadership to ensure high‑quality service and motivation to work across professional and organisational boundaries.
Qualifications & Skills
* Band 5 level experience in neonatal and/or paediatric nursing.
* Confidence, compassion, and clinical credibility.
* Excellent interpersonal and management skills.
* Capability as a registered, accountable, autonomous nurse capable of acting in the best interests of patients.
* Strong supervisory skills in mentoring student midwives, nurses, and junior staff.
* Knowledge of the NMC Code of Conduct, BLISS Baby Charter, and UNICEF Baby Friendly Standards.
* Ability to provide family‑centred care and maintain high‑standard quality care.
