The Works Assistant Apprentice will carry out instructed duties under the supervision of the Works Buildings Manager or designated representative. All works will be carried out in accordance with appropriate Statutes, Codes, Regulations, Standards and Departmental Procedures.
The apprentice will work as part of a team or independently, having due regard for Lone Working procedures. A professional and helpful attitude is expected at all times, in line with the College values.
The role forms part of a structured Level 2 Property Maintenance Operative Apprenticeship, delivered by Abingdon & Witney College.
The apprenticeship includes 15 months of practical workplace training with additional block release sessions at the Bicester campus, followed by a 3-month End Point Assessment.
Your main place of work will be St John’s College, St Giles, but due to the nature of the College’s activities, you may be required to work across the College estate.
This is a practical, hands-on role involving general maintenance and repair of College properties; cleaning; fault finding; assisting contractors; regular inspections; and working alongside other trades.
The apprentice will gain real-world experience across multiple disciplines while learning how to ensure the functionality, safety, and presentation of buildings.
